Airport blackout delays flights

A power system blackout at Sydney airport has delayed all international flights by up to one and a half hours.

By 11am today Qantas reported a total of six flight delays.

All lighting, airplane checking systems and baggage systems are shut down within the airport.

According to Sydney Airport spokesperson Peter Vicary, the airport is progressively restoring power and is expected to be fully operational "in the near future".

Vicary confirmed the power was lost to Sydney Airport at 9.30 this morning and they expect delays of nearly one and a half hours for all arriving and departing international flights.

It is believed that circuit breakers are likely to be the cause of the problem.
