From healthcare to home improvement, from banking to baseball, customers rely on McDATA to ensure business application availability and data protection

Sydney, Australia. -30 March 2006 -McDATA Corporation today announced that in calendar Q405 the company maintained its overall leadership position in the Fibre Channel product space with more than 36 points of product share, as reported by the Dell'Oro Group. McDATA has held the top leadership position in the Fibre Channel director space since 1998, and has maintained the number two total SAN switching share position since introducing fabric switches in 2001, growing from zero to more than 20 points. Despite the emergence of new players to the storage market, including a multi-billion dollar networking company, McDATA has upheld and retained a strong product share position.

"After years of market evolution and growing competition, McDATA continues to be the trusted provider when it comes to solving customers' business problems, establishing new technology partnerships and delivering innovative solutions," said Ken Cooper, country manager for Australia and New Zealand, McDATA.

"We are extremely proud of McDATA's legacy in the storage networking industry and will continue to build on our strong heritage as we expand the reach of our products and solutions into new markets with offerings like McDATA's ROC (remote office consolidation). We have already expanded into new product and market spaces as our company has evolved, which opens up a much larger market opportunity and many new potential customers and partners."

With the general availability of McDATA's Intrepid® 10000 Director (i10K) through all major storage partners, the company expects to grow its director share in the coming quarters. McDATA has shipped more than 500 award-winning i10K's to customers worldwide, including Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Huhtamaki Americas, Getronics PinkRoccade and the Agricultural Bank of China. In the fabric switch space, McDATA remains focused on growing its switch share, shipping more than 1 million ports of its Sphereon(tm) fabric switch product since entering this market in 2001. Its current fabric switches, the Sphereon 4400 and 4700, offer McDATA's innovative FlexPort(tm) technology as well as best-in-class 4Gb/s price performance. In the coming months, McDATA will announce 4Gb/s capabilities across its entire portfolio of switches and directors, ensuring investment protection and seamless scalability for new and existing customers.

Share calculations for McDATA are based on McDATA's fiscal Q405 actual reported results, adjusted for a calendar quarter. Competitive data was derived from the Dell'Oro Group's Quarterly SAN report for calendar Q4 published March 2006.
