To meet the increasing need for diverse skills in the IT industry, Dimension Data Learning Solutions (DDLS) has added a new course and a new training package to its offering.
Business Analysis and Business skills package now join a list of technology-oriented vendor certified courses the provider offers.
"Research and customer feedback showed us that what managers most wanted from their IT staff was time management, communication and customer service skills," DDLS general manager, Steve Ross said.
The five-day Business Analysis Training course is an interactive and practical course which aims to skill participants in comprehensive analysis techniques, business requirement development, and negotiation of agreement among different personality types and different stakeholder interests. It then aims to take students right through the process to the development, drafting and presentation of a persuasive business case.
Ross admitted that most "techies", given the choice, would train in technology skills rather than soft skills, "but even though technology skills will get you the job, business and communication skills will get you promoted".
The Business Skills package is a suite of five, one-day courses: leadership, communication, time management, customers, and teams, which Ross hopes managers will offer to their staff.
"We don't want to train select individuals with these skills, we want to train entire departments," he said.
"Every organization will be facing a skills gap or about to face a skills gap. There are never enough staff, so you have to make more out of what you have. By giving your staff communication and time-management skills organizations can increase productivity."
