Commonwealth Bank appoints tech executive

The Commonwealth Bank has appointed former PNC Financial Services CIO Michael Harte to the position of group executive, technology services.

In his new role Harte will be responsible for development of the bank's technology including the implementation of a world-class technology strategy.

The goal is to ensure technology solutions enhance the way the bank interacts with customers.

Announcing the appointment, Commonwealth Bank CEO Ralph Norris said Harte has a first-class technology background in the financial services industry and will be part of the senior executive team.

The bank is currently undertaking a $1.5 billion transformation program that will reach completion in September.

So far it has involved the loss of 2400 jobs, the retraining of more than 30,000 staff and the rollout of a range of new IT systems.

Harte will take up the post in April.
