Google is starting to send invitations to customers who requested its Analytics service, after overwhelming demand caused the company to stop accepting new subscribers in November.
Google Analytics is a free service that tracks the effectiveness of banner ads, referral links, e-mail newsletters and free and paid search results. Web site owners can see how visitors were referred, and how the visitors use their Web site.
Invitation codes are being sent to a first set of customers who requested an Analytics account, according to the company's Inside AdWords blog Wednesday. Google said it is working to add server capacity to add more accounts and asked others waiting for an account to be patient.
The crunch came when Google bucked the market by offering Analytics for free, nixing the US$199 monthly fee. Google acquired Analytics, formerly known as Urchin on Demand, when it bought Urchin Software in March 2005.
