Business Objects and MySQL have strengthened their partnership by collaborating on software bundles that combine MySQL's open-source database with business intelligence (BI) software from Business Objects, company representatives said Monday.
Under the agreement, which they are calling an "OEM (original equipment manufacturer) referral agreement," Business Objects will sell three new BI software bundles that give customers access to MySQL's database technology through MySQL Network, which is a combination of software, services and support, said Nicolas Pujol, director of alliances for MySQL.
In turn, MySQL is marketing the new software packages, which combine products in Business Objects' XI line of BI software with the MySQL database, to its customers, he said. "We are promoting them and they are selling them," Pujol said.
The packages feature lower price points than Business Objects' typical enterprise offerings, so they will be attractive to MySQL's customers, which typically are cost-conscious, he added. "They're pricing these bundles specifically at lower price points for MySQL users," Pujol said.
The new software bundles come in small, medium-sized and large customer packages. A MySQL Network subscription, which starts at US$595 per server, per year, must be purchased separately for each of the bundles, he added.
The Small Customer Bundle costs US$4,000 and joins MySQL Certified Binaries with Business Object's Data Integrator (DI) Basic, Crystal Reports and CR Server software. The price includes unlimited installation help and five incidents of online support from Business Objects, as well as licenses for one source and one designer for DI Basic, five named users for CR Server and one named user for Crystal Reports.
The Medium Customer Bundle costs US$7,500 and integrates MySQL Certified Binaries with DI Basic, CR Server, Crystal Reports and the Data Integrator e-Learning Package. The price includes unlimited support and maintenance, both over the phone and online, as well as licenses for one source and one designer for DI Basic, five concurrent access licenses for CR Server and one named user for Crystal Reports.
The Large Customer Bundle costs US$20,000 and includes DI Basic, BusinessObjects Enterprise (BOE) Pro, Crystal Reports and the DI e-Learning Package. Like the medium-sized package, it also includes unlimited support and maintenance. Licenses included in this bundle are one source and one designer for DI Basic; 15 named-user licenses for BOE Pro; and one named user for Crystal Reports.
The new software packages are available today, Pujol said. Customers can contact Business Objects for more information on how to purchase the bundles at firstname.lastname@example.org, an e-mail address that has been put in place exclusively for these products.
