Sheep, cattle research data goes online

A Web-based library of research and development data into sheep and beef was launched this week spanning 50 years of data.

Named Livestock Library, it contains articles from industry journals and conferences, as well as fact notes for visitors to search.

Livestock Library is the combined effort of the Australian Sheep Industry CRC, the CRC for Beef Genetic Technologies and Australian Wool Innovation, built by Internet Business Design (IBD).

IBD spokesperson John Brown said the library was built to handle up to 30Gbytes of data stored locally, and has the capacity to access data from a number of external locations.

"The massive amount of information stored is available in milliseconds via a single simplified interface," Brown said.

"At the same time it provides more advanced users with many sophisticated options."

During the next 12 months the library will update sheep and beef facts from all state departments of primary industries and include industry reports and information from publications.
