FedEx taps Opsware for global data center operations

FedEx has selected the Opsware System to help the delivery company make the most of its IT resources.

FedEx said in a statement that it will use the software from Sunnyvale to leverage its IT resources more efficiently so it can more quickly respond to customer and market demands.

When deployed, the Opsware System will automate the operational life cycle of FedEx's servers and applications as well as the process for recovering servers. The software will replace tasks now done manually, the company said.

"IT automation is crucial for an agile organization like ours that has to respond quickly to customer demands and a dynamic business environment," said Robert Carter, executive vice president and CIO at FedEx. "The Opsware System is an IT automation solution that is proven to work in large, distributed environments and can integrate with our existing infrastructure."
