The new Caplio R3 digital camera - more zoom than meets the eye

 • 26 September, 2005 11:45

Ricoh, a world leader in wide angle zoom lens technology, has further strengthened its position in the market with a revolutionary digital camera release. The Caplio R3 features more zoom than ever before yet is still contained within its renowned slimline body. This makes it the ultimate point-and-shoot digital camera for both new and experienced photographers.

Ricoh has long been recognised for its exceptional wide angle lens innovation, and the new Caplio R3 doesn’t disappoint. It is the only camera in the slimline design category to offer a revolutionary 7.1x (28 – 200mm equivalent) wide angle optical zoom lens. This extraordinary power makes it ideal for almost any photographic situation. Whether it’s the detail on a faraway object or a picturesque panorama, the Caplio R3 captures it all.

Despite this outstanding zoom power, the camera is able to completely house its lens within a 26mm slim body. All this is thanks to Ricoh’s unique double retracting lens system which splits the lens shaft into three smaller segments. The Caplio R3 is the only camera in the world to feature such a large optical zoom range in such a compact, slimline body.

Sophisticated image stabiliser technology eliminates the blurred effects associated with camera shake - an inherent limitation of long focal lenses. Ricoh’s CCD Shift Method Vibration system detects and compensates for handshake occurring the moment the shutter button is pressed. The result is clearer images, especially in macro mode.

It isn’t just the wide angle zoom that makes this camera stand out. One of its most appealing features is the extra large 2.5 inch high definition LCD screen. The screen can be brightened or darkened depending on outside light conditions ensuring the pictures are clear and easy to view. Text and icons can be enlarged or reduced to suit the owner.

Ricoh is also known for its fast shooting compact digital cameras and the Caplio R3 continues this tradition. An improved hybrid autofocus system enables it to focus and shoot in a mere 0.09 of a second. With the focus lock achieved it shoots in an almost instantaneous 0.007 of a second.

In continuous shooting mode, the Caplio R3 can take up to seven shots in three seconds. And the amount of images captured is limited only by memory card in use. This makes the perfect shot even easier to achieve.

Regardless of the shutter speed, the Caplio R3 is adequately equipped to handle a variety of different exposure settings. Furthermore, it has a multipoint focus system to confirm pre-shooting focus accuracy and an angle correction mode to straighten skewed images.

Packing even more into this tiny camera, the Caplio R3 also offers:
• A long lasting rechargeable battery that can take more than 350 standard shots off a single charge.
• An improved 1cm macro mode with digital zoom function. This makes it possible to shoot a subject as small as 6.4 x 4.7 mm with viewing magnified to full LCD screen size.
• High quality MPEG4 movies with sound to add to the digital photography experience. The amount of continuous AVI video is limited only by the memory capacity of the SD card in use.
• PictBridge enabled for the printing of pictures directly from the camera via a USB connector. This eliminates the need for PC intervention.

The Ricoh Caplio R3 is available from October and comes in a black or silver metal finish. RRP: $599 inc GST.

Ricoh photographic products are sold through more than 1500 outlets nationally, including leading camera specialists and electronics retailers.
