The Sustainable Energy Authority Victoria Selects MapInfo to Increase the Availability of Information and Improve Productivity

– MapInfo® Exponare™ Provides Vital Information to Internal and External Stakeholders –

Sydney, Australia — September 12, 2005 — MapInfo Corporation (Nasdaq: MAPS), the leading global provider of location intelligence solutions, today announced the Sustainable Energy Authority Victoria will use its interactive mapping software to chart Victoria’s renewable energy resources and generators including wind, geothermal, hydro, wave and tidal, and map information about Victorian Government initiatives to accelerate sustainable energy.

The new technology based on MapInfo® Exponare™, will help the Sustainable Energy Authority increase the quality and accessibility of information about Victoria’s renewable energy resources. This will be used to encourage appropriate renewable energy development across the state. In addition, all Victorians will be able to access information about a range of Victorian Government initiatives and accelerate the uptake of sustainable energy.

Megan Wheatley, head of business development for the Sustainable Energy Authority said, “This is the first time information about Victoria’s renewable energy resources will be available in this much detail.”

The move to ‘Exponare Enquiry’ and ‘Exponare Public’ mapping software aims to benefit both internal and external stakeholders who will now have easy access to detailed information about renewable energy resources and other government initiatives such as the solar hot water rebate and photovoltaic rebate.

Ms Wheatley said, “Our move to the new MapInfo technology is about looking for a smooth transition from paper maps to an online system that can be accessed easily by both staff and the general public. It has also provided us with a cost-efficient way to share and analyse vital information. The technology allows us to accurately locate and visualise data for market analysis and advanced business intelligence - which aims to bring us one step closer to significantly improving energy sustainability in Victoria.

“Previously, only one person in the organisation could access, analyse and disseminate vital geographic information - now this information is available to staff and the general public,” she added.

“The Sustainable Energy Authority’s use of MapInfo Exponare will demonstrate the technology’s ability to map location capabilities that can be easily distributed across various stakeholders in a uniform and cost-effective manner,” said Gavin Lennox, vice president and general manager, MapInfo Asia Pacific. “This solution will be instrumental in raising awareness of the Sustainable Energy Authority’s services and assist in accelerating the uptake of sustainable energy across Victoria.”

Victorians can visit the Sustainable Energy Authority’s website to find out if they are eligible for Government rebates and will soon be able to find which retailers participating in the rebate program are in their geographical area through Exponare Public. In addition, MapInfo® MapMarker will be used to ‘geocode’ the customer and the retailer to help analyse the amount of rebates received via postcode or local government area.
