PC Tools Software is set to move into the enterprise market with a new version of Spyware Doctor aimed at large networks.
Spyware Doctor Enterprise bears a slightly different interface to the highly successful consumer version and operates through a central console from the IT department, but includes all the same anti-spyware features.
"Although the 'client' component does not include any new functionality over the existing consumer version, management over a network will be greatly enhanced," said Simon Clausen, CEO of PC Tools Software. "The centralised server will manage deployment, licensing, updates, reporting, settings and activity of the client."
Although Spyware Doctor Enterprise is a leap into untested waters, Clausen is unfazed.
"We are confident about the product and confident of the demand for a best-of-breed enterprise anti-spyware solution," he said. "Moving from the consumer space to enterprise will bring new challenges, especially with customer acquisition, support and channel management."
At this stage, Spyware Doctor Enterprise will not be bundled with any of PC Tools' other programs, such as Privacy Guardian or Spam Monitor.
A beta version of Spyware Doctor Enterprise is expected to be available by the end of August. The product will be offered over the web with a free 25-user / 30-day trial (although the user and time period is subject to finalization). Pricing is still being finalised, but PC Tools Software said it would be competitive.
The company also said that once it establishes the VAR channel it will be offered through resselers as the primary means of purchase. "We will not be directly engaging in sales other than offering the product on the web site," Clausen said.
