Brisbane-based Internet solutions company Icemedia has won a contract to redesign the entire Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO) whole-of-government Web site.
The Web site links to some 700 Australian government Web sites, as well as 1680 further links with search access to five million additional state, territory and Australian government Web sites.
Managing director of Icemedia, (a division of Dialog Information Technology) Paul Campbell said as the entry point for the government, it is important that the Web site www.australia.gov.au adheres to best practice in usability and accessibility.
"The Australian government wanted to present an image as a leader and innovator and provide a user experience that would be informative, intuitive and visually interesting to visitors," Campbell said.
"We are pleased to be able to demonstrate that the Queensland software industry is of the calibre to compete successfully in the national and international arena.
"Our track record in information design and usability consulting, including the design of the Queensland government Internet Gateway (www.qld.gov.au) will enable us to assist AGIMO in retaining its world leader status in e-government."
Campbell has been very vocal of late as to how local Australian companies can compete directly with multi-national firms to win government contracts.
He has been lobbying the Queensland government through his role as chairman of industry group Software Queensland, and is part of the ICT representative group meeting with the Beattie government's working group to ascertain how local IT companies can better position themselves to win public sector contracts. The second meeting is due at the end of this month.
