Alcatel provides M&C Saatchi with IP Telephony to increase functionality and reduce expenses

Upgrading existing Alcatel system saves M&C Saatchi 60% in new communication server costs and 50% in ongoing costs

Sydney - 26 May 2005 – Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA AND NYSE: ALA) today announced that advertising agency M&C Saatchi has chosen Alcatel’s solution to upgrade its communications infrastructure to support IP Telephony. As part of a recent expansion program, M&C Saatchi decided to deploy IP Telephony through an upgrade to its existing Alcatel OmniPCX Enterprise telephony platform.

By implementing the upgrade to the Alcatel OmniPCX Enterprise, Saatchi saved 60 per cent of what it would have cost the company to purchase a new system with this functionality. The company was also able to achieve a 50 per cent reduction in network operating expenses because the upgraded Alcatel solution supports a more efficient network infrastructure that uses the same communications link for both data and voice services. Leveraging Alcatel’s dual support for traditional TDM and IP telephony environments, the effect of the upgrade on the existing system had minimal operational effect because IP functionality is already built in to the Alcatel OmniPCX Enterprise.

Steven Lastro, M&C Saatchi’s IT Manager for Australia, said, “We had been considering IP for several months and when the need came about to extend our infrastructure in our Sydney office to other floors and another nearby building, we considered it more seriously.

“Because of Alcatel’s forward-thinking, dual approach to IP Telephony, we could quickly extend the functionality of our existing infrastructure to provide new functionality to employees and protect our previous technology investments. At the same time, we could provide employees that work from home with additional functionality, including access to their office phone and the features it supports, greatly improving the communications experience for remote employees” he explained.

M&C Saatchi has chosen Alcatel’s premium business partner Nexon to upgrade its infrastructure. Nexon’s existing relationship with M&C Saatchi and its in-depth understanding of M&C Saatchi’s requirements made providing a managed solution – including virtual LAN and managed security services – straightforward and easy to manage from M&C Saatchi’s perspective.

Vaughan Webster, Australasian Channel Manager for Alcatel Enterprise solutions activities said, “The Alcatel OmniPCX Enterprise stands apart from the competition because it enables companies to migrate to IP without serious upgrade or cost implications. M&C Saatchi can continue to deploy IP solutions at any new office, as well as extend the functionality regionally. It also means M&C Saatchi is ready to embrace IP applications, achieving the true advantage of IP networks,” he added.
