EPSON Perfection 4180 Photo Scanner with 4800 dpi resolution

 • 04 August, 2004 10:48

EPSON Australia today launched the EPSON Perfection 4180 Photo Scanner with an increased resolution of 4800dpi for photo enthusiasts looking for ease of scanning with high quality results.

The versatile Perfection 4180 Photo Scanner includes a built in TPU and scans photos, A4 documents, up to 12 frames of 35mm strip film, or up to four 35mm mounted slides and six medium format film frames of 120/220mm.

The Perfection 4180 Photo Scanner increases the speed of negative scanning by using a blue toned lamp which reduces the extended exposure time normally needed for negatives. As the base colour of negative film material is brownish in colour, when scans of negatives are made with white light the transmission of the blue component is less than green and red. To preserve image quality other scanners use a longer exposure time for blue to compensate for its loss during negative film scanning, and this slows the overall scanning speed.

With this blue toned lamp, USB 2.0 Hi-Speed interface and new ASIC, the Perfection 4180 Perfection Scanner is able to scan at a quick 11msec/line*. The USB 2.0 also ensures full compatibility for sharing amongst PCs and Macintosh operating systems.

The increased resolution is the result of a Matrix CCD, and new Micro-Lens, making it possible to improve the resolution without increasing the carriage size.

The Perfection 4180 Photo Scanner includes EPSON Smart Panel 3.2 technology with Copy, Scan and Save, and Scan to Email functions. The Copy function automatically prints images on the scan bed, and the Scan and Save function is an easy way of scanning images directly into a file. The Scan to Email function scans images with the TWAIN driver and then automatically attaches them to an email.

The driver software for the Perfection 4180 Photo scanner is EPSON Scan; which can be set to one of three modes Auto, Home, and Professional, making it flexible enough to suit all skill levels.

The easy to use Image Restoration function - for black and white and colour photos or film - helps restore old photos to their former glory. The Dust Removal function automatically minimises dust from film and negatives. Both of these functions are perfect for photo enthusiasts wanting to bring life back to old photos, negatives and slides.

The Perfection 4180 Photo Scanner comes with a range of applications such as ArcSort PhotoImpression(TM)5, ABBYY FineReader 5 Sprint, and NewSoft Presto! BizCard 4 LE.

With ArcSort PhotoImpression 5 software, users can get creative with images and is great for both home and office use. ABBYY FineReader 5 Sprint converts paper documents into editable word processing files using Optical Character Recognition (OCR). BizCard Reader software transforms business cards into a portable electronic database, making it very useful in the office.

With the option of an A4 Automatic Document Feeder with a capacity of 30 pages the Perfection 4180 Photo Scanner can turn scanning of A4 documents into a high-speed operation.

The Perfection 4180 Photo Scanner is priced at $649 (Recommended Retail Price) and is available through EPSON retailers. For full product specifications on this and other EPSON scanners please refer to www.epson.com.au <http:>.</http:>
