IBM funds new IT Chair at ECU

A new IBM-funded Professorial Chair of Computer and Information Security has been created at Edith Cowan University (ECU) to tackle the growing problem of information terrorism and security.

ECU Vice-Chancellor Professor Millicent Poole announced that Professor Bill Hutchinson, author of Information Warfare: Corporate Attack and Defence in the Digital Age, has just taken up the new five-year post at ECU's Mount Lawley Campus. Professor Hutchinson oversees seven ECU researchers undertaking groundbreaking international, Federal and Western Australian research projects worth about $250,000. These include 'deception' projects developing 'honeypots' to trap computer hackers for Federal government agencies. Other ECU research supervised by Professor Hutchinson tackles wireless security, health information security, information terrorism, and information operations for the US government. Professor Hutchinson is the Chief Editor of the Journal of Information Warfare and Chairman of both the European and Australian Information Warfare and Security Conferences.
