Riverstone rolls out access router

Riverstone Networks this week unveiled a 24-port carrier Ethernet access router for small and emerging service providers.

The Edge Solution (ES) 2010 is compatible with Riverstone's MPLS-based RS and 15000 carrier Ethernet routers. It is intended to enable small service providers to inexpensively turn up end-to-end Ethernet services.

The CPE router is targeted at high-density residential and office buildings or business campuses. In addition to the 24 ports of 10/100M bit/sec Ethernet, the 1-rack-unit ES 2010 is equipped with two Gigabit Ethernet uplinks, either Small Form-factor Pluggable or copper.

The ES 2010 provides Layer 2+ services, including VLANs, rate limiting, routing, and Access Control Lists (ACL) to provide secure VPN and Transparent LAN services to customer premises. It supports up to 8,000 Layer 2 MAC addresses and 228 VLANs, Riverstone says.

Service providers can configure 100 ACL entries with eight rules per entry. The ES 2010 also supports four 802.1p traffic classes, two DiffServ queues and up to 6.6 million packet/sec of routing throughput.

The ES 2010 is available now. Riverstone did not disclose pricing.
