CIO Executive Council to drive progressive agenda

Welcome to the CIO Executive Council of Australia, a local initiative aimed at providing its CIO membership base with standards, methodologies, governance and best practice programs that will allow IT executives to successfully execute IT projects in a more holistic and successful manner.

Our goal is to leverage the collective strengths of a large, powerful coalition of CIOs for the purpose of achieving change within our own organizations and influencing key industry, academic, media and government groups.

Members can actively participate in Council-wide initiatives aimed at driving relevant industry, legislative and academic agendas that impact on our organizations and the future of IT.

One of the primary benefits will be the opportunity to learn from a large knowledge base of CIOs, share experiences and know-how and have direct contact with peers.

This is a member-driven organization allowing CIOs to participate in task forces focused on cross-industry issues relevant to specific verticals such as healthcare and retail.

The Council's Board of Advisors is an active, working board of influential CIOs that advise council management on emerging industry issues and make policy recommendations.

We provide online, telephone and face-to-face interaction with members. This includes members-only, non-sponsored events as well as major CIO Magazine conferences. The Council also stages conference calls on major issues like vendor management, disaster recovery, security and offshore outsourcing. All calls are led by member CIOs.

As part of our peer consultation there is a formal program that allows members to share insights and lessons learnt through moderated, secure channels. We have a dedicated team on hand to facilitate and guide individual member involvement in all aspects of the Council.

This is in addition to Council member case studies with detailed accounts of major projects completed by our members as well as a Member Directory which is a searchable database of Council membership.

So what are the benefits of membership? The most important would have to be the resources that will allow you to make smarter IT decisions. Peer consultation provides a critical source of counsel which empowers CIOs to make better decisions on key enterprise issues.

Another is reduced cost. By comparing notes on issues such as vendor selection and best practice, members are able to improve project success rates and avoid costly mistakes.

It also enhances your company's image because the council's external relations campaign will provide media opportunities for member companies.

At the same time members reduce legal exposure and compliance risk. Rather than allowing federal or state legislation "to happen", the Council will meet regularly with government leaders so that CIOs can voice opinions and influence the formulation of new laws.

And most importantly, it is a forum that provides leadership development opportunities for top lieutenants.

Membership is only available to CIOs or other executive-level IT professionals in the public or private sector. To fund the activities and ensure the Council's growth and development, members support the council through annual dues.
