NETGEAR launches complete line of MIMO based solutions

 • 04 April, 2005 08:09

Sydney, Australia (4 April, 2005) – NETGEAR (Nasdaq: NTGR), a leading provider of easy-to-use, high-performance networking equipment, has launched its new RangeMax family of wireless networking products, designed to give users the longest range and speeds of any wireless device on the market.

Based on Video54’s patent-pending BeamFlex™ technology, RangeMax uses seven Smart MIMO (Multi-In, Multi-Out) antennas to deliver 127 unique antenna patterns that adapt ‘on the fly’ to the network environment by adjusting to RF interference, locations of clients and physical barriers, resulting in extraordinary range and consistent high-speed data transfer performance throughout the home. RangeMax constantly and dynamically adjusts its antenna configurations to optimise the signal to deliver a consistent stream of data, eliminating dead spots, video freezing and jittering, and connection drops.

“NETGEAR is the first in the industry to offer a complete line of MIMO-based solutions, delivering superior coverage, speed and adaptability to ever-changing wireless environments,” said Ian McLean, Vice President, NETGEAR Asia-Pacific. “Our new family of RangeMax products delivers true innovation and quality to the local market, further strengthening NETGEAR’s position as the Australian wireless market leader.”

The new product line features a RangeMax Wireless Router (WPN824), which has been optimised for use with the RangeMax Wireless PC Card (WPN511), RangeMax Wireless PCI Adapter (WPN311), and RangeMax Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter (WPN111), to deliver up to 500,000 square feet of coverage – up to 1000 per cent more than 802.11g.

The RangeMax router is also fully compatible with existing 802.11b/g and SuperG products, significantly enhancing the range and speed of wireless clients that do not carry RangeMax circuitries, providing a performance increase of up to 50 percent for existing 802.11g clients including notebook computers with integrated wireless networking capabilities and Intel Centrino-based systems.

The NETGEAR WPN824 RangeMax Wireless Router supports data rates up to 108 Mbps and features:
- An integrated 4-port 10/100 Mbps switch;
- A robust set of network security features including NAT and SPI firewalls, 64- and 128-bit Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP), Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key (WPA-PSK), Wireless Access Control (SSID), Denial of Service (DoS) attack protection, Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDS), Exposed Host (DMZ) for secure online gaming, and MAC address authentication
- NETGEAR’s popular browser-based SmartWizard Installation Assistant for ease-of-installation and management;
- NETGEAR’s Assisted Firmware Update to enable automated retrieval and installation of firmware upgrades.

When used in conjunction with the new router, the NETGEAR WPN311 RangeMax Wireless PCI Adapter (for use with desktops), WPN511 RangeMax Wireless PC Card (for laptops) and WPN111 RangeMax Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter (for desktops and laptops), all offer:

- Reliable, steady, and fast data connections over an extended range throughout the home, eliminating the need for costly repeaters and signal boosters;
- WEP and WPA security settings;
- NETGEAR’s Smart Wizard Installation Assistant for simple set-up.

The RangeMax WPN824 Wireless Router (RRP:$249), WPN311 Wireless PCI Adapter (RRP: $149), WPN511 Wireless PC Card (RRP:$149) and WPN111 Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter (RRP:$169), are available now from NETGEAR’s value-added resellers located throughout Australia. They are supported by 24x7 technical support and come with NETGEAR’s standard three-year warranty. Increased technical support is also available with NETGEAR's advanced warranty.
