Cray selects Emulex HBAs for use with supercomputers

Global supercomputer supplier, Cray Inc., has selected Emulex LP9802DC 2Gb Fibre Channel Host Bus Adaptors (HBAs) for use in the Cray X1 System.

As a result, according to Emulex Corp., Cray customers can now benefit from the reliability and serviceability provided by the company's storage connectivity solutions, while using Cray systems for some of the most demanding computing applications ever performed.

"Cray's selection of our HBAs proves that Emulex continues to produce and deliver products that meet the extreme demands of supercomputing environments," says Mike Smith, executive vice-president of marketing at Emulex. "Emulex HBAs are used within all Cray X1 systems to provide connectivity between key embedded components, as well as being used in a more typical manner with networked storage associated with the Cray X1 system."

"Cray customers use our supercomputers for some of the world's most intensive applications," says Ly Pham, vice-president of software development at Cray. "Emulex's offerings match the extreme reliability and flexibility requirements that we demand, and that our customers require. Emulex's flexible firmware-based architecture allows both ourselves and our customers to easily service, manage, scale and upgrade the connectivity within their supercomputer systems," he concludes.
