Reflectent Software Inc. last week updated its flagship software, which tracks systems and application performance on end-user devices and can now help network managers predict the impact of problems and prevent them when new applications are rolled out.
EdgeSight 3.0 adds features to alert network managers if an application rollout will cause any performance issues on enterprise desktops - prior to deploying the software. Specifically, the impact analysis feature can show which applications, users and business units will be most affected by a new patch or software change before the installation takes place, says Howie Markson, vice president of product marketing for Reflectent.
"A lot of times network administrations go to make a change, but they are unaware of how that change affects other parts of the application or end-user desktops," Markson says. The software can also perform migration analysis, he says, helping network managers understand what needs to be done to migrate multiple desktops to a new version of software and avert potential problems.
EdgeSight comprises client agents that collect performance, availability and other application information as well as server software that aggregates data from the agents. The agents can send real-time alerts to the server software, as well as forward data used for tracking trends. The agents work on desktop, laptops or mobile devices, and can store data for up to 30 days.
Because data is stored locally, the company says its software doesn't bog down networks like some management software can. Network managers access the data via a Web-based interface.
Available now, EdgeSight 3.0 is priced starting at US$50,000 per server and US$50 per desktop agent.
