Web-hosting provider, WebCentral, has launched a new “on demand” server hosting solution.
The new solution, known as 10SecondServer.com, has been designed to enable resellers to offer simple dedicated hosted servers to their customers.
“It’s based around a utility-on-demand computing model,” WebCentral CEO, Lloyd Ernst, said. “You can order resources and deliver resources on demand.”
10SecondServer uses a real-time provisioning system which takes a customer’s order and processes it instantly – hence the name.
“Previously, if you wanted to get a server operational, especially if you were purchasing from one of the bigger brands, you’d have to fill in a lot of forms, send them off and wait around for a couple of weeks,” Ernst said. “Now it can all be done instantaneously.
“You can be sitting on a plane and purchasing components, and then installing them straight away.”
The solution will allow resellers to address two key market segments.
For local companies who may have been considering hosting their servers in the US, 10SecondServer can offer a cost comparative solution. It features a 30GB traffic allocation to reduce issues associated with low traffic allocations offered by some providers.
For businesses which need to run their own servers, manage their own applications and retain a greater level of responsibility, resellers can provision a server in real time and then provide their own value-added technical services by managing the server on behalf of the customer.
“It’s a true on-demand hosted server solution for server hardware and network connectivity,” Ernst said. “It’s almost like a self-service model.” Ernst said this would be a great opportunity for resellers.
“We see this as a real growth area for the channel as more Australian companies adopt this approach to dedicated servers and the follow the trend evident in the US,” he said.
