Turbolinux offers technical preview of 64-bit OS

TurboLinux has begun offering a technical preview of its upcoming version for 64-bit Intel and AMD platforms.

Turbolinux has begun offering a technical preview of its upcoming version for 64-bit Intel Corp. and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) platforms for download, the Tokyo company said Thursday.

The 'Turbolinux 10 for AMD64/EM64T' has been available to Turbolinux 10 Server users, Turbo-CE certified users and TurboLinks partners since the end of January and will be made available to the public from the end of February, the company said in a statement.

The new OS uses Turbolinux 10 Server as a base platform and like other 64-bit operating systems maintains compatibility with 32-bit legacy applications. The company currently offers a version of its Turbolinux 8 operating system for the AMD64 platform.
