WMC signs $24m infrastructure outsourcing deal

Diversified minerals producer WMC Resources has signed a $24 million deal to outsource its IT infrastructure and management of its worldwide IT operations over the next three years.

Melbourne-based WMC awarded the contract to Unisys and BankWest joint venture Unisys West.

WMC general manager of IS, Noel Thurow, said UnisysWest would convert WMC's in-house IT services to an outsourced IT services model.

The outsourcer will supply all IT management and support services to WMC and its subsidiaries in Australia. Unisys will also provide desktop, server, network management and helpdesk support services to WMC's international operations in China, the US, Canada and Mozambique.

The outsourcing partnership is aimed at making WMC's IT infrastructure costs more predictable and increasing service levels to WMC users, Unisys Asia-Pacific vice president and managing director Andrew Barkla said in a statement today.
