Mitel Networks this week released a call accounting software package aimed at businesses using IP PBXs and IP telephony.
The IP Telephony Accounting Solution is a software package that can allow telecom administrators to track and generate reports on the usage of an IP PBX or VoIP system. The software also allows users to monitor and track carrier billing.
Plus, the software can combine reports on current use with forecasting formulas to plan future telephony needs, such as capacity and carrier calling plan requirements.
In addition to administrative tracking and reporting, the IP Telephony Accounting Solution can be used to monitor and track phone system misusage by showing anomalies in calling patterns and highlighting unusual calls, Mitel says. The software can help users detect toll fraud attempts, where outside users may be trying to make calls off of a corporate IP phone system through access codes, or through IP-based hacks.
The Windows-based software can generate reports in Microsoft Excel and is compatible with other enterprise systems based on a SQL database. It interoperates with most IP telephony systems from Mitel, as well as other vendors, such as 3Com, Avaya, Cisco Systems and Nortel Networks. The software can also be used with hybrid IP/TDM PBX systems.
