Working group formed on server management

Several major hardware and software vendors Monday announced the formation of the Distributed Management Task Force Server Management Working Group, which will be devoted to creating standard server-hardware management interfaces.

The leaders in creating the group are hardware vendors Dell, Hewlett-Packard, IBM and Intel, and other members include Advanced Micro Devices, Microsoft, Oracle, OSA Technologies and Sun Microsystems, according to a press release from Distributed Management Task Force Inc. (DMTF), which developed the Common Information Model.

The DMTF Server Management Group will develop a common command-line interface to enable local and remote management of server hardware and will evolve CIM to cover server blades and virtualized server systems, according to the statement.
