Galileo International Inc., a worldwide reservation system that handles travel industry bookings, has signed a 10-year contract with United Air Lines Inc. to provide reservations system technology, hosting services and network management.
In addition, Galileo, a subsidiary of Cendant Corp., will develop a new Internet booking engine for United.com, the airline's Web site, it said in an announcement.
Chicago-based United said the new booking engine will help it bolster efficiency, maximize revenue and enhance customer service.
Through a strategic alliance with Datalex PLC, a Dublin-based provider of Internet booking engine technology, Galileo said it will provide United with one of the most advanced Internet booking technologies on the market today.
Galileo said the booking engine will serve as the primary platform for United's online distribution strategy and will closely integrate its consumer and other distribution channels.
United recently joined Galileo's Preferred Fares Select program, providing Galileo-connected travel agencies and their customers with complete access to all of United's published fares for a three-year term.
Neither Galileo nor United could be reached for comment on Monday.
