Microsoft promotes Moore to regional CTO

Peter Moore, Microsoft Australia's former director for .Net platform strategy and developers, has taken up the company's most senior technical position in the region as chief technology officer (CTO) for greater China and Asia-Pacific .

Moore joined Microsoft Australia in 1995 as the product manager for developer tools. Over the past two years, he has driven the company's .Net developer initiative to Microsoft's Australian technical community.

Moore's new charter is to lead the technical team to "communicate Microsoft's vision" on wide-ranging topics such as emerging technologies and Trustworthy Computing. He will also work with business and government in the Asia-Pacific on architectural and technical strategy issues, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

As CTO, Moore will report to Microsoft's vice president of sales and marketing for Asia-Pacific and greater China, Chris Atkinson. Moore has a background in electronics working with a computer company for nine years before joining Microsoft. Before that he worked in electrical engineering in the airforce.
