Philippines companies at the recent launch here of Novell's NetWare 5 said they are attracted to the operating system's strong network management capabilities and would consider using it in their systems for this purpose.
"From one centralised location, NetWare would allow us to manage the entire network," said Orlando Aquino, system analyst at Prudential Guarantee and Assurance.
Aquino said the company is considering upgrading from an earlier version of NetWare to release 5. NetWare 5 is integrated with Novell Directory Services (NDS), which provides for the centralised management of an entire network. NDS allows administrators to deploy and manage server-based applications, integrating NetWare, Windows NT and Unix solutions, Novell said.
At the same event, Peter Que, assistant to IT division head at Rizal Commercial Banking Corp, said his company is also considering NetWare 5 to manage a heterogeneous system that includes older NetWare LANs, Windows NT, and Unix.
Asian Sources, a publishing concern with about 330 workstations, is also looking at NetWare 5, said Joubert Uriarte, operations supervisor, information services.
