BANGKOK (01/26/2000) - The Nation Group publishing organization has formed a new subsidiary with 100 million baht (US$2.68 million) in registered capital to invest in the Internet and related activities, group chairman Thanachai Theerapatvong has announced.
The publisher of The Nation daily newspaper and Krungthep Turakij will establish Nation Digital Media Co to spearhead its investments in this sphere.
Nation Digital Media's first few projects will be to launch a national Web portal, comprising information from the group's print and broadcasting media, which, apart from the dailies, includes Nation Junior, Nation Weekender magazine, cartoons, comics, radio and TV programs. The portal will also provide enhanced classified services on recruitment, real estate, cars and restaurants.
To coincide with this development, the group's Web site will be changed to http://www.nationgroup.com/. The site will also become e-commerce-enabled, so subscribers can pay their fees as well as purchase other goods and services from the group.
Thanachai said the Nation Group would be announcing a series of Internet projects with local and strategic partners in the coming weeks, as the Internet is set to dominate the information scene in Thailand in the 21st century.
The Nation Group has already formed alliances with www.pantip.com and Bridge, one of the world's largest financial information providers.
