Corporate telecommunications provider, Macquarie Corporate Telecommunications will commence full commercial operations of its national data network today.
The carrier forecast in its recent prospectus that the network, which will be funded by Macquarie's IPO, will be operational from 1 October.
According to officials, the network comprises data switching exchanges in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and will be extended to Perth soon. In addition, a further eight switching exchanges will be established over the coming nine months.
It is planned the data network will transport computer to computer data traffic for Macquarie's corporate customers with the ability to use several technologies over the one network. These will include private leased lines, Frame Relay, ATM and IP, officials said.
