Australia's IT industry employment growth is exceeding the average across all industry segments, according to the quarterly Morgan Banks Job Index released today.
The index reveals net growth of 55.8 per cent for the IT industry, comprised of 59.1 per cent of companies in staff hiring mode and 3.4 per cent planning to downsize.
Average growth for all Australian industry segments is 23.8 per cent, Morgan Banks reports.
The report is compiled from 3206 employers surveyed across the country, and covers industry employment expectations for the February to April 1999 period.
Full time 'Computer/IT' workers lead the IT industry's employment expectation figures at 53.4 per cent, followed by sales at 12.3 per cent, with clerical administration trailing at 3.2 per cent.
Meanwhile, the ACT is leading the states in IT employment expectations at 63.9 per cent, down slightly from the previous quarter's figure of 67.6 per cent. South Australia follows the ACT at 60.9 per cent, NSW at 55.5 per cent, Victoria at 55.3 per cent, Western Australia at 50.8 per cent and at Queensland 45.5 per cent.
