Harradine blocks planned Telstra sale

Tasmanian Senator, Brian Harradine last night put a stop to federal government plans to sell off the remaining stake of Telstra.

Harradine, who holds the Senate balance of power until July 1, confirmed he will vote against the full sale of Telstra, in the legislation hearing due to be voted on before Easter.

Harradine, did however, suggest 16.6 per cent more of Telstra could be sold, leaving the Government with 50.1 per cent and generating $17 billion.

The Telstra legislation is due to be debated this week.
