Dairy products manufacturer Pauls has installed an enterprise storage system from EMC to help it manage an IS consolidation and cement its disaster recovery model.
The organisation, which has 2000 employees working across 15 sites around Australia, bought the SAP R/3 and Hewlett-Packard-based system to control the replacement of several disparate IS systems after becoming involved in a buying frenzy in the mid-1990s. The resulting six acquisitions, according to a Pauls executive, meant its technological infrastructure was in dire need of consolidation.
"We ended up with a whole lot of disparate systems in the early 90s [following the acquisitions] that we then converted to SAP R/3 in around 1995/96. As our database continues to grow, we were looking for a reliable disk storage medium to meet that growth and help us deliver good performance for the future and we chose EMC," said Ron Walden, Pauls' group business systems manager.
