High-speed LAN switching specialist NBase-Xyplex is dipping its toes further into the fiercely competitive Australian networking market.
NBase's President, Guy Avidan, is flying to Australia next week specifically to announce an increased commitment to the region through its distributors Digital Networks Australia and Proactive Communications Solutions.
The joint US/Israeli based company is planning to extend its traditional OEM business to end-users in Australia under the marketing premise it can offer "best-of-breed products" at competitive prices.
A spokesperson said the company is not yet committed to opening its own office in Australia.
Market competitor Xylan - now a division of Alcatel - welcomed the company's increased efforts, but warned of tough times ahead.
David Keane, Xylan Australia's managing director, said the networking market is becoming increasingly competitive as vendors move to offer a full suite of voice and data services. "Good luck, welcome to the war," Keane said.
The problem is Australian users increasingly want more than just a specialist switch or router provider, he commented.
The combined NBase-Xyplex company has built its reputation around NBase's switching products and Xyplex's terminal servers and routers.
