PowerTel announced last week it has chosen AMP Fibrenet as the supplier for optical fibre management systems for its Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney networks.
In the deal, AMP Fibrenet is supplying equipment including rack termination cabinets, patchcords, leads and optical products to the telco provider.
According to Ron Sibbes, PowerTel's network engineering manager, AMP Fibrenet was chosen for the project because of the flexibility and security offered.
"PowerTel has gone to great lengths to ensure the reliability of its fibre network. AMP Fibrenet's custom design eliminates exposure of fibre to human error, which has long been identified by legacy carriers as the greatest risk to reliable networking," Sinnes said.
PowerTel also announced recently EnerServ, a division of Energy Australia, has began work on the rollout of long distance fibre cables between Sydney and Newcastle and Sydney and Melbourne.
