Server licences for Microsoft's Windows 2000 have "slightly increased" compared to similar prices NT.
Tony Wilkinson, Windows marketing manager, said the higher price was justified by increased functionality in the operating system. The estimated retail price for Windows 2000 Server with 10 client access licences (CAL) is $1939, compared to $1869 for NT 4.0. Wilkinson said Microsoft had simplified the license requirements for CAL eligibility.
However, Wilkinson said the upgrade from Windows 95 or 98 to 2000 was lower than previous upgrades.
The estimated retail price for Windows 2000 Professional is $539; Windows 2000 Professional upgrade from 95 or 98 is $379 and Windows 2000 Professional upgrade from NT Workstation is $259.
