Telstra Big Pond yesterday launched a new free broadband service to its Internet cable customers.
Called Big Pond Advance, the service offers users a high-speed, multimedia interactive Internet service, streaming voice, video and data, officials said.
According to David Stokes-McKeon, Telstra's Internet and data managing director, the service is only available to Telstra Big Pond cable customers but will be extended to satellite and ADSL customers in the future.
"The next technology to deliver Big Pond Advance, at speeds up to 400Kbits, will be satellite, followed by ADSL some time in the future," Stokes-McKeon said.
The service was launched yesterday in conjunction with the 2WS Doug Mulray radio/Internet show. According Stokes-McKeon it is envisaged in the future the service will offer customers a mixture of business and consumer content.
