Soul Pattinson Telecommunications (SPT) has selected Nortel Networks to supply and design a $20 million digital microwave network.
Linking Sydney and Brisbane and interconnecting major regional communications along the way, the network is expected to carry commercial telephony traffic and digital video signals.
It will also facilitate digital television broadcasting for SPT's commercial television operation, NBN Television.
Officials said the project will be completed by September this year.
According to Michael Simmons, company secretary of SPT and NBNTV, the network will service licensed carriers, telecommunications service providers, government agencies and corporate customers. Officials said the SPT network comprises 20 intermediated connections, based on Nortel's SDH (synchronous digital hierarchy) microwave radio solution and SDH multiplexers and ATM switches.
