The CDMA (code division multiple access) Development Group (CDG) has slated cdmaOne as the preferred technology of choice for third-generation wireless services.
The issue was addressed earlier this week at the Fourth Annual CDMA World Congress in Hong Kong.
According to officials, cdmaOne is the only technology which offers a seamless evolution path, as well as the ability to introduce advanced information services cost effectively.
Perry LaForge, executive director, CDG, said: "cdmaOne does not require costly upgrades for third-generation services. In fact, here in Asia where cdmaOne is widely deployed, operators have a significant advantage as the technology supports third-generation services and increased capacity in existing spectrum bands.
"cdmaOne is the future of wireless, making 3G a reality today."
