Ericsson to deliver CitySearch via WAP

Ericsson has commissioned CitySearch to deliver leisure and lifestyle content from its leisure and lifestyle Web site ( to consumers' mobile phones.

The new service will kick off early next year, with content delivered via wireless application protocol (WAP).

"When you consider that there are more than six million mobile phone users in Australia and 25 per cent of the population are active internet users, the commercial opportunities with WAP are clear," said Andrew McLorinan, corporate strategy manager, infrastructure, Ericsson.

"We are delighted to have secured an agreement with CitySearch because it provides high quality, local content which is totally relevant to a mobile environment," he added.

"Information relating to restaurants, accommodation and movies could be delivered quickly to consumers via their mobile devices no matter where they are."
