Telecommunications carrier Davnet has announced that it has begun transmission on what it believes is the only IP-based Gigabit Ethernet network in Australia.
Operating in the Melbourne CBD, the network connects Davnet's primary hubs in the city in the Rialto building in Collins Street, 101 Collins Street and 600 Bourke Street.
Meanwhile, Davnet is scheduled to complete a similar network in Sydney within the next two months.
"Primary hub centre blocks in Sydney will initially include Grosvenor Place plus the Gateway building, as well as both 9 and 209 Castelreagh Streets," said Stephen Moignard, chief executive officer, Davnet.
IP-based Gigabit Ethernet networks in Perth and Brisbane will follow, according to company officials.
