Telstra opens Global Operations Centre

Telstra has officially opened its Global Operations Centre (GOC) in Melbourne where, with a staff of 700, it will manage its national, international and offshore networks.

Telstra previously operated regional network surveillance centres across Australia.

According to Gerry Moriarty, Telstra's group managing director, network and technology, the $35 million facility took 12 months to build and holds one of the world's largest digital videowalls.

"The centre will not only help us monitor our national, international, terrestrial and satellite networks, but it will also provide a unique opportunity for the integration of future technologies - such as those using IP on our new Data Mode of Operation (DMO), next-generation infrastructure," Moriarty said.
