IBM Australia has named David Thodey as its new managing director following the announcement that Bob Savage is to retire from the job at the end of June.
Thodey, a 21-year IBM veteran, has held positions with IBM in the distribution and finance industries, in direct marketing and channels and the commercial business areas.
Most recently he was head of marketing strategies for IBM in Australia and New Zealand.
Savage has been with IBM for 35 years. He was managing director for IBM's Australian and New Zealand operations for the past three years. He will be best remembered for leading IBM's development and growth in China.
Closer to home, Savage engineered the inclusion of Telstra as a partner in IBM Global Services Australia.
Thodey first joined IBM in New Zealand in 1978 where he held sales and marketing roles, including heading up the banking and insurance industry division.
In 1991 he was appointed national manager for consumer marketing for Australia and New Zealand, based in Sydney. In 1994, Thodey was appointed to IBM's Asia Pacific headquarters in Tokyo and held a variety of posts including director of channels distribution and director of IBM's commercial business programs.
