News Corp ready to Yahoo?

On the heels of America Online's mega merger with Time Warner, reports claim Rupert Murdoch's News Corp is in closed-room discussions with Yahoo to thrash out details of another massive partnership between traditional and new media.

While senior representatives from both camps declined to comment, sources close to both companies say the deal would provide access to Yahoo via News Corp's satellite systems while News Corp would distribute its content, such as Fox News Channel, through Yahoo. News reports also state that such a partnership would see both companies taking a stake in one another, rather than merging.

Should such a partnership eventuate, News Corp's main competitors in Australia - Publishing and Broadcasting Ltd and Telstra - could be faced with an even stronger opponent in the race to build dominant Internet portals.
