MCI WorldCom has created a business unit to manage integrated network design, construction and maintenance for large, global corporate customers.
The unit, called Global Solutions, is based in McLean, Virginia, and will be run by Anthony Russo, MCI WorldCom said today. The unit is part of the company's Global Accounts business division and has a staff of 2,000 globally.
Global Solutions offers outsourcing services to some 350 global customers for whom MCI WorldCom oversees telecommunications operations. Besides planning large telecommunications facilities and operations, the unit helps corporations maintain such systems, and also installs and manages PBXs (private branch exchanges), Internet routers and other network equipment for voice, data and the Internet.
MCI WorldCom, which is based in Jackson, Mississippi, has found that large corporate customers often prefer to turn oversight of such network operations over to the telecommunications company, Russo said in the written statement announcing the new unit.
