SA IT industry to have representative body

The South Australian government has allocated $600,000 to fund a representative body for the state's growing IT and communications industry.

Enterprises Minister Michael Armitage said the Information Industry Development Group had been established to provide a single body to focus on industry-wide issues.

"Information technology and communications is a huge growth industry which grew by about 10 per cent last year with an eight per cent increase in employees," Dr Armitage said.

"This body will send out a strong message to the local information industries that they are a vital part of the state's future and will be working alongside the government.

"One of its roles will be to facilitate collaboration between the 15 associations within the industry and provide support for small associations which currently have low membership bases."

Armitage said key objectives of the development group also included promotion of the IT and communications industry as a whole and to maintain high level liaison and cooperation between the industry and state government departments.
