Davnet has stepped up the pace on its IP-based network with the installation of five new routers from Cisco.
The addition of the Gigabit Ethernet GSR 12000 routers makes Davnet's network the largest Gigabit Ethernet "Cisco powered network" in Australia, the company said in a statement today.
The equipment enables Davnet to deliver up to one gigabit per second of data to customers, officials said.
According to Jason Ashton, CEO of Davnet Telecommunications, the company plans to launch a full voice service later this year using voice over IP technology. Ashton said this will include full interconnection with traditional carrier networks, but will be delivered through the customer's In-Building Ethernet connection.
"Davnet's latest network enhancement will substantially improve the IP-based data, voice and video communications services available to Australian businesses," Peter Papaioannou, regional manager of Cisco's telecommunications and service provider line of business, said.
Davnet provides network services, including voice, video and data to corporate customers in Sydney and Melbourne.
