OzEmail founder Sean Howard has joined the Cable & Wireless Optus Board as a non-executive director.
The chairman of Cable & Wireless Optus, Sir Ralph Robins, said he was delighted with the appointment.
"His extensive personal knowledge of Australian data and internet protocol (IP) applications makes him ideally suited to Cable & Wireless Optus, especially as the company broadens its investments in IP products and services," Robins said.
Chris Anderson, Cable & Wireless Optus' chief executive officer, said Howard would make a valuable contribution to the board.
"As a successful Australian pioneer in the highly competitive world of IP, Sean is ideally suited to further help position us as Australia's corporate IP leader and data product innovator," Anderson said.
Howard sold his stake in OzEmail to MCI Worldcom for $120 million last year.
The appointment brings the CWO board to 10 members. The other directors are Robins (chairman), Anderson (CEO), Norman Gillespie (deputy CEO), and non-executive directors Robert Lerwill, Stephen Pettit, Gavin Campbell, John Cloney, Greg Haustorfer and John Morschel.
