Mobile phone number portability set for September

Mobile phone users will be able to keep their number when changing service providers from September 25, the Australian Communications Authority (ACA) said today.

ACA chairman Tony Shaw said the authority was told to make regulatory changes to allow mobile number portability by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

"The final regulatory arrangements are now in place for mobile number portability to happen," he said.

"The amendments also make it clear that a mobile number transfer or port involves either a change in carriage service provider or a change in carrier network or both."
