Telstra delivers interconnection undertaking

In a new interconnection undertaking, Telstra has proposed a charge of 2.3 cents a minute for 1999-2000.

The undertaking for the provision of access of the Public Switched Telephone Networ (PSTN) to other service providers, was delivered to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission on Friday.

According to officials, Tesltra's revised rates are well below the carrier's original rates of 3.67 cents per minute and are in line with prices around the world.

The rate is also closer to the ACCC's suggestion that Telstra reduce its interconnection charges to 1.6 cents per minute.

Telstra officials said the new undertaking takes into account the ACCC's views on the weighted average cost of capital (WACC) and reflects efficient forward-looking costs.
